PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi is another Indian-born woman
Indra Nooyi is the second Indian-American woman to achieve that feat. American women of Indian origin have the highest status. Amey Sonia Singhal (49). She became CEO of Time Gap Inc., a leading apparel company ranked 186th among Fortune 500 companies. The company’s revenues are $ 18 billion a year. The company has 3,727 stores abroad and employs 1.35 lakh employees. She previously worked at Sun Microsystems and Ford Motors for 15 years. Joining Gap Inc. in 2004, she is the Group’s Old Navy CEO and Gap Inc. Europe MD.
The appointment came to prominence during a vigorous debate on diversity and gender equality as part of an election campaign between three white American leaders. There are now 33 women CEOs in Fortune 500 companies. It is rare for women from immigrant families to rise to the level of CEO. Sonia was born in India and moved to Canada after her childhood. Sonia holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Kettering University and a Masters Degree from Stanford University.
